Orthophthalaldehyde, pale yellow crystal, sensitive to light and air, can evaporate with water vapor. Soluble in water, ethanol, ether and organic solvents, slightly soluble in petroleum ether. irritating.
Production Use
1. Analytical reagents in the chemical field: As amine alkaloid reagents, it is used for the determination of primary amines and peptide bond decomposition products by fluorescence method.
2. Organic synthesis: It is also a pharmaceutical intermediate.
3. Fluorescent reagents, used for pre-column HPLC separation of amino acid derivatives, and flow cytometry to measure protein thiol groups.
